Mountain Biking Facts A 12-month study conducted by Dr. Lee Jeys of the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital found that nearly half of the injuries were fractures, particularly to the collarbone and shoulder. Head and neck injuries were also common. Cyclists are urged to wear protective gear, including a helmet and wrist and knee pads, to reduce the risk of serious injuries.
